As parents, we all want our children to grow up to be happy and successful, and we hope their name will further this cause. Unfortunately, in today's world, people are first judged by outward appearances, rather than by character. We want our kids to become unique, confident, powerful, and successful, and we do not want their names to hinder the process.
Of course, we all want the best for our children, and that includes a baby name that will portray all of the exercises we want them to have. As a result, choosing a unique baby name can be a time consuming and daunting task for any new mother and father. It does not have to be this way!
Here are a few thoughts to ponder when choosing a unique baby name:
1. Focus on unique baby names, but try not get cached up in choosing a name that is so different than everyone else.
As mothers sometimes we think we are helping our children, yet this is not always the case, even though our hearts are in the right place. A unique baby name is a wonderful thing for your new child; however, a name that is too unusual may hurt them in the long run. You know how cruel some kids can be when they are growing up. As much as we do not want to admit it, we have all experienced it and know it to be true.
2. It's OK to be struggled with a baby name. Do not feel guilty about this.
Mothers, especially new, can sometimes feel guilty that they have not chosen a baby name even after their child is born. Looking around it may seem like a lot of people already know the name of their baby, even before they become pregnant. Let me assure you, this is not the case with the majority. It is perfectly OK to be indecisive. This is a very important decision and you want to make sure you get it right.
3. Try not to feel pressured to name your baby after a family member especially if it is not the name you desire.
As a parent, that new baby is your responsibility, so you have the last word on a name. If you want to go with a family name out of respect, it is understood. However, if it is haunting you day and night, go with your gut … you and your baby will be happier in the long run.
4. Ask for suggestions from other people that you trust
There is strength and wisdom in numbers. Ask your friends, neighbors, and coworkers for any suggestions. Begin a baby naming game with your coworkers and award them with a free lunch if you pick their name. Try sending out a mass email asking for suggestions on popular baby names. Get creative. Then maybe choosing a unique baby name will be more fun and interesting rather than a daunting task.
5. Now, it is time to put your feet up and relax
Mothers face a lot of stress with everything that is involved with pregnancy and parenting, and they do not need to add any more chairs when choosing a baby name. Take a deep breath, relax, and try to enjoy the entire experience. You will only go this way once. Do not worry about how your baby's name will affect them through their lives. Yes, it may affect them somewhat, but the love and adoration you have for your new baby will outweigh any negative attention. So, try and focus on giving that infant all of the love and attention it describes. The unconditional love you give to your child will tell them that there is nothing they can not accomplish, no barrier they can not overcome, and no name will ever compete with that!
